My wife and I spent the second week of July 2015 on the island of St. Lucia. We stayed at the St. James Club Resort on the northern part near the city of Castries. The Hewanorra Airport was located at the opposite end, about an hours drive away. We ruled out the local taxi service due to high prices (> $80) and local island bus service (we didn’t know how to use it). Instead, we made a reservation online for the Janus-Airport Shuttle.
We were able to arrange transportation to and from our resort for a decent roundtrip price ($135 for the two of us). The area around the airport was very busy with taxi cab drivers trying to bargain with potential customers. We advanced to the back of the ground transportation area where our driver from Janus awaited us, holding up a sign with our names on it; the driver, Mr. Dell, identified the code number we received online to make sure he was whom he said he was. He pulled his small van up to where he could easily load our luggage. It seemed strange to us right from the start of the trip that the driver was on the right hand side of the vehicle and drove on the left side of the road.
The trip to our resort took about an hour along a twisty road. Mr. Dell pointed out local geographical (the pitons) and historical sites along our route. He made stops along the way for us to take pictures or just enjoy a scenic overlook. He made sure we stayed hydrated by furnishing cold water or the local beer (Piton). We also stopped at a local bakery and watched them make and bake bread, a welcome treat. Mr. Dell was very informative and helpful through his suggestions and answering our many questions.
On the return trip to the airport, Mr. Dell’s son was our driver. He was also a very knowledgeable driver. He arrived at our resort right on time to pick us up. We enjoyed listening to local music on his radio. On both trips we were escorted in modern, well air-conditioned vehicles. This was our first visit to the island and our ground transportation got it off to a grand start. We definitely would recommend and use the Janus-Airport Shuttle when we return to the island.
